Sarah Jane Woodward

In 3 words describe your pattern design style?
Colourful, modern and fun.

What is your work & design process?
I like to use watercolour inks and  fine liners for detail. I also like to use floral photography in some of my designs.  I then put everything together in Photoshop.

Where do you find your design inspiration?
I closely follow catwalk trends and fashion reports. I am often inspired by fresh flowers, nature and different textures. I like to be experimental with my paint and media.

What advice would you give to new designers?
Experiment as much as you can with media and technique. You don’t need to have all your ideas planned out before hand.

In 3 words describe your pattern design style?
Precise – Detailed – Clean

What is your work & design process?
In the morning, I turn my computer on, open Illustrator and Photoshop, and get busy. If I don’t have work for a client, I create something that pleases me.

Where do you find your design inspiration?
I find a lot of inspiration looking at 100+ year-old textiles and wallpapers at museums.

What advice would you give to new designers?
New designers need to just keep at it! Learn to make a perfect repeat, and learn new skills through tutorials or workshops. Search the marketplace for trends, but be true to yourself.

Ruby Valderama

In 3 words describe your pattern design style?
Harmony – Diversity – Beauty

What is your work & design process?
Ever since I was little – I’ve just loved drawing and sketching – and I’m one of the lucky ones who gets to do it all my life!  I always start with sketches – I’m always sketching, and feel lost when I don’t have my sketchbook or ipad handy. The ideas just flow out – Sometimes I’m really happy with the line drawing, other times I paint them up with watercolour or gouache. And then I use modern technology to bring them into today’s world. Adobe Illustrator is *The Best Thing Ever* – Fact! Procreate on the iPad is *The Second-Best Thing Ever*

Where do you find your design inspiration?
Almost literally everywhere – but mostly in the garden. And my big passion is vintage and retro patterns and textiles, but I’m always looking at current trends too, from the catwalk to the high street and underground.

What advice would you give to new designers?
The most important thing is to have fun and do everything *with love*.

Lauren Thomas Designs

In 3 words describe your pattern design style?
Painterly, fun, fresh!

What is your work & design process?
Everything is hand drawn or painted from scratch. I usually work from mood boards or trends, then develop artwork into repeating patterns, perfect for fashion, interiors and stationery!

Where do you find your design inspiration?
I find inspiration from the latest catwalk shows, and then use what’s around me to drive my designs – books, nature, vintage fabrics etc.

What advice would you give to new designers?
Just keep trying, don’t give up, find new ways to push yourself and love what you do!
