Patternbank recently discovered the beautiful work of Anisa Makhoul and thought we’d share some of her gorgeous illustrations. Anisa is the daughter of a Lebanese beekeeper, after graduating from Minneapolis College of Art and Design with a degree in Printmaking, she launched her own clothing label, Makool. Designing and screen printing clothing for her shop in Portland Oregon for 10 years, she received many accolades from publications such as Lucky Magazine, Nylon and Design Sponge.
Since then Anisa’s career has changed direction and she has moved to Amsterdam and started painting with gouache, influenced by her surroundings and travel in Europe. We asked her a few questions about what inspires her now and what upcoming projects she’s working on.
Tell us about your work & Process – any exhibitions?
I’m currently working on three books, one of them is my first author illustrated book. Those are ongoing projects and I still fit in editorial work whenever possible
What creatively inspires you?
Travel, traveling is an endless source of inspiration, whether locally or internationally, or just dreaming through the computer. I’m always energized after exploring another culture.
