The Patternbank team have been researching the latest print and pattern trends for Interiors Spring/Summer 2019. This market is awash with different looks to choose from right now, but dark midnight blue to black seems to be a hot favourite, with a new twist on the ongoing tropical theme. To add some glamour accessories like flamingoes, cacti and pineapple lamps, with rich golds and copper tones are key to this look. Keep an eye out for more interior trend reports on Patternbank.

01-yellow-tailed-black-cockatoo-and-banksia-linocut-rachel-newling

Rachel Newling works with linocut to produce stunning artworks depicting some of Australia’s unique bird species and tropical flora and fauna. The Linocuts are hand printed on to handmade Japanese Washi paper and then hand coloured once the print has dried. Newling uses lightfast acrylic gouache paint and an artist’s proof print as her guide for the colours and tones applied to the print in the same edition, “there are always slight variations as my colouring is “painterly’ therefore each print in an edition is an individual.” Patternbank love her depiction of some wonderful looking Cockatoo’s alongside the native species of Australia. Newling grew up nr Padstow, Cornwall and attended an art school in London, before she made the big move to Australia.

01-katie-scott-wild-flower-botanicum

Patternbank are a big fan of Katie Scott’s work and with the release of her new book Botanicum next month we thought we’d share some of the illustrations with you, along with others from her book Animalium. Scott was also asked to create this animated “living wallpaper” for Publicis for their London office, taking her work to another level. “Together we created two seamlessly looping animations for display on an ultra-wide projector system and an LCD video wall. The animations evolve slowly over time, creating a subtle sense of movement with their fantastical botanical activity. This brings an intriguing feeling of change to the space in which they are displayed.” Truly beautiful and captivating work.

01-hiroyuki-izutsu

Hiroyuki Izutsu paints wonderful floral studies in vibrant contrasting colours. Patternbank love the way he composes them on the page almost like a placement print, using a matt painterly technique that really suits the flowers of his choice, tulips, roses and tropical foliage. Izutsu grew up in Tokyo and also likes to paint landscapes, check out the rest of his artwork on Behance and Instagram.
