Today we are featuring the work of textile print designer Velvetgoldmine in our ongoing series highlighting the fantastic designers here on the Patternbank Textile Print Design Studio. Sylvie Nowack is a french graphic designer who designs under the name Velvetgoldmine. Sylvie’s patterns start with sketches made by hand and her own photos which are then manipulated in illustrator or photoshop. There is a love of nature and animals in her work with colour and geometry being a strong underlying feature.

Patternbank think her work has a distinct feel and understanding sympathetic to pattern which is crucial in surface design and fashion print. Take a look at more of her amazing designs here on her profile page. The featured design above is Blue Garden Pattern and is available exclusively on the Patternbank Studio as are all the designs shown here.

Velvetgoldmine also has many designs in Patternbank Premium our exclusive area for key buyers in the fashion and surface design industry. Patternbank Premium offers one-off bespoke designs (once a design is sold it is instantly removed from the site), this section of the site is a members-only area where you need to apply for access.

Gina Triplett and Matt Curtius met while studying at the Maryland Institute College of Art and since then have collaborated on some fantastic projects. Triplett studied illustration and Curtius painting which today their work draws on both these backgrounds. An impressive portfolio ranging from book illustrations for Random House, Little Brown and Penguin to posters for Apple and gift cards for Target. Triplett has designed a fabulous print for Converse where she worked directly onto a blank Chuck Taylor trainer and together T-shirts for Urban Outfitters and snowboards for Option, Lamar and Sims. See more of their collaborations at and a peak at work in progress on their tumblr site here.

Patternbank love the sheer scale and dimension of Chinese artist Liu Wei’s work. Playing with the idea of structure Wei creates with oil on canvas with some triptych pieces that evoke rich and vibrant cityscapes and colourful horizons. Wei works with a range of media and techniques, including photography, painting, sculpture and installation. In 2013 he collaborated with Illy to produce a series of designs for cups and saucers for their Illy Art Collection. Wei’s work is currently on show at The Rubell family Collection, Miami, Florida in the exhibition 28 Chinese until August 1st 2014.

Patternbank were excited to see our Première Vision + Indigo – Autumn/Winter 2013/14 Print Trend Report being used as inspiration for the Find New Designers Print and Pattern Pin Hop June 2013 on Pinterest. A Pin Hop is a variation on the Blog Hop idea, but instead of having to trawl through lots of different Blogs you can see everything on one Pinterest board. Brilliant! Over 50 hand picked super talented surface pattern designers submitted original designs to the Pin Hop which started on Saturday June 15th. Check it out here.

The 4 chosen stories were Midnight Garden, Optical Day, Historical Adornment and Urban Metropolis. Each designer picked one theme and created a pattern and 2 – 6 coordinates.

We’ll certainly be keeping an eye on many of these designers for our forthcoming ‘Patternbank Studio’ where we’ll be selling print and pattern designs online. If you would like to be one of the first to appear & sell designs sign up now for the pre-launch application. Please email with 4 – 6 sample designs.

I’m sure you’ll agree that there are some incredible designs by some very talented designers, we’ve picked a few of our favourites here, just click on the images to visit their Blog. We’re looking forward to the next Pin Hop. Thanks to Tina Olsson / FYLLAYTA for oganising the event.
