At first glance the work of photographer Andreas Zimmermann appears to depict urban landscapes created out of children’s toy building blocks. The photographs are in fact high-resolution photos of individual Lego which are then digitally assembled on a computer to produce these clever landscape patterns. Patternbank love the playful colour and composition where order sometimes clashes, tricking the eye into seeing something that is not quite what it first appears.

01-okuda-san-miguel

Patternbank are loving the vibrant geometric work of multidisciplinary artist Okuda San Miguel. Okuda is based in Madrid, where you can see many of his pieces on rail-roads and abandoned factories, instantly recognisable from his particular style. Often using structured patterns that could be categorised as Pop Surrealism, his work blends multicoloured geometric architecture with organic shapes, bodies without identity, headless animals and symbols that encourage reflection. His work can be seen in streets and galleries around the world.
