Kaethe_Butcher_Relationships_Girls_And_Erotica_08

These exquisite drawings and illustrations are the work of German artist Kaethe Butcher. Not surprisingly Kaethe has sought inspiration from artists such as Carson Ellis, Takato Yamamoto, Riikka Sormunen and Egon Schiele, whose influences are evident in her own work. Her subject matter hinges on femininity and the purity of female relationships, with many of her pieces involving erotically intertwined limbs, and evocative poses. As the artist says “who doesn’t like naughty stuff?”. To see more of her portfolio visit her website here.

Jason_Middlebrook_Painted _Wooden_Planks_02

Patternbank loves the work of Michigan born artist and sculptor Jason Middlebrook. His captivating geometric paintings on slices of tree trunk give the surreal effect of a contemporary, abstract grain. The artist says,”No matter what I paint on those planks, I have to take into account that the tree did so much more work than what I did. The tree lived for a hundred years, and it compressed all that time into the grain. Every time I do a plank painting, I’m trying to respect nature, but also create my own parking lot, my own highway. I think that’s what the planks are about, trying to draw attention to the tree, draw attention to the form, and then delicately make a statement with my hand. Because the tree is the narrative.” See Jason’s website here.

01-Revok-Petoskey

Patternbank love the abstract geometric panels that artist Revok creates from his studio in Los Angeles. Using vibrant colours Revok puts together striking patterns using found materials sourced from abandoned homes, schools, businesses and churches, sampling bits and pieces of people’s lives, hopes, dreams and aspirations, reinterpreted through rich decay and age-worn patina. Born in 1977 in Riverside, California, Revok (Jason Williams) is respected for decades of influential and pioneering work as a graffiti writer. Check out more of his work at revok1.com

We_Make_Carpets_Fifth_Year_Anniversary_Exhibition_02

Patternbank featured the creative genius of We Make Carpets back in 2012, but after five years of carpet building and with fifty different designs under their belts, MU opened its doors on 24th Oct 2014 to welcome visitors to We Make Carpet’s 5th anniversary exhibition. The space was filled with designs by the creative trio behind We Make Carpets, Marcia Nolte, Stijn van der Vleuten and Bob Waardenburg. Constructed from everyday items such as cocktail umbrellas and drinks bottles the artists lay their designs from the middle spreading their carpet patterns outwards with painstaking precision. Their patience and skill are taken to the extreme with an impressive collection of micro carpets made from seeds, sugar strands and pins. See more of their creations here.

Eric_Standley_Paper_cut_Pattern_trends_Laser_art_11

Patternbank are loving these awesome and mesmerising laser cut paper forms by Virginia-based artist Eric StandleyThe technique he follows for the “building” of his works does not differ from that of the ancient craftsman other than he uses lasers in the place of the chisel and hammer. Eric’s work consists of successive layers of intricately cut paper sheets utilizing a laser, thus creating a multifaceted, rich, colourful ensemble. The Patternbank team are loving Irish street artist Maser work. Since 1995 Maser has been using the world as his canvas. Masers incredible 3D installation paintings are a combination of optical art and colourful geometric pattern plays.
