Today Patternbank are featuring the work of print designer Soufiane Lafkih in our ongoing series highlighting our great designers here on the Patternbank Textile Print Design Studio. Soufiane has an extensive collection of designs including hand painted florals and digitally created geometrics. We asked Soufiane about his education and what inspires him, “I had a styliste and graphiste diploma from ESMOD school Paris, which I chose because of my passion and love for the fashion and clothing styles. My sources of inspiration are nature first, I love how the colours harmonise with each other. As for fashion, I follow street styles and the seasonal catwalk shows and the fashion designer who inspires me the most is Dirk Bikkembergs.  Check out more of Soufiane’s work here on her Patternbank Studio profile page.

seb_janiak_mimesis_an_adaptive_imitation_strategy_11

These strangely captivating images are the photomontage project of Paris based photographer Seb Janiak. Named Minessis, which is a Greek word for imitation. To create each artwork Janiak scours antique stores and taxidermist shops to find examples of wings which he then photographs at extremely high resolution. The pieces are digitally edited and pieced together into flower-like forms (a sort of meta mimic of a mimic) which are then output as chromogenic prints measuring nearly 6 feet square. The Patternbank team are loving the beautiful irregular textures and colour patterns created in these amazing art pieces. See more of Seb Janiak’s inspirational work here.

alison_moritsugu_log_paintings_of_idillic_landscapes_5

Alison Moritsugu was born and raised in Hawaii and left the islands after high school. She received a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York. She lives and works in Beacon, NY. The artist says , “My work reveals how idealized images of the land shape our concept of the natural world – in essence, how our experiences are mediated by the mechanisms of art and culture” Moritsugu paints these traditional idealistic landscapes directly onto log cross sections with the bark in tact. ‘These landscapes appear as an homage to the idyllic art of the Hudson River School yet, by viewing the painting’s surface, the cross section of a tree, any sense of nostalgia or celebration of nature is countered by the evidence of its destruction.” See more here.
