Patternbank love Frida Wannerberger. The illustrator has an innate fascination for beautiful things, the world and the un-everydaily. There is a subtle narrative to her work, expressing an intense love for clothes. An analytical relationship with what we wear along with an attraction to details, ultimately led her onto the path of illustration for fashion. Trained at Central Saint Martins, Frida graduated 2013 with a BA in Graphic Design and Illustration. Frida currently lives in London, where she is an Associate Lecturer on the BA Fashion Illustration Course at London College of Fashion. Mixing pop culture icons with stylised artworks, designer BFGF caught our eye recently. These fresh homewares are the work of Lilian Martinez who calls her creative endeavor BFGF an “Art Brand”. Patternbank were drawn to the compelling randomness of the content. Simpson’s characters, sports brand logos, historic female sculptures, and basketballs all feature within her work. Mixing history, pop culture elements, and tropical plant life to create amazing art pieces. Based in California BFGF sells through her website and Society6.

Patternbank are loving this visually enhanced photographic series entitled ‘Constructed’, by artist, illustrator and designer Pawel Nolbert. Pawel blends graphic and photography elements and poses questions like: where does the “photo” end and “graphy” begin?  The use of what tools make it a photography, and distinct it from a graphic? Does it make sense to create that distinction anymore?
Pawel has a high calibre of companies that he has worked for, these include Nike, Google, Apple, Sony and Disney to name a few. See more of his jaw dropping work at nolbert.com

Check out this creative project by a group of Taiwanese art students from the National Taiwan University of the Arts. Hung I-chen, Geo Yi-hui and Cheng You-ti, produced a collection of tempting looking frozen lollypops in graphic, eye catching packaging, but with a sinister twist. Together they collected 100 samples of polluted water from locations throughout Taiwan, these were then frozen onto sticks and preserved in polyester resin and on close inspection the suspended pollutants and fragments of rubbish are clear to see. This project was designed to raise awareness about water pollution and its devastating impact the world over. Find out more about the project and how it was created on the group’s Facebook.

Patternbank are loving the work of Tom Abbiss Smith. The recently graduated illustration artist from Norwich University Of The Arts, currently lives in Norwich, UK. Through both contemporary and traditional techniques such as digital collage, print making and painting, Tom explores shape and form to produce abstract works and illustrative outcomes. His work can be seen in various publications, including Creative Review, Wallpaper Magazine, Crack Magazine and Walnut Magazine. Last chance to see a brilliant tribute to photography and painting, Sotheby’s presents a curated selection of works by Erik Madigan Heck in a stunning selling exhibition.  Approaching photography with the same eye as high art, Heck’s works capture the essence of painting through the lens of his camera.  His work is elegant and unashamedly beautiful, exploring the intersections of fashion, painting, and classical portraiture.  Working with natural light and combining in-camera effects with digital postproduction, he produces evocative and seductive images that are simultaneously timeless and futuristic. The exhibition is on until 19th May 2017 but if you miss out, try to catch the photographer in conversation, ‘Picturing Balenciaga’ at the Victoria and Albert museum or check out his new anthology, Old Future. Patternbank are loving these modernist interior illustrations by Romanian artist Ana Popescu. With the holiday season not too far away these beautifully stylish illustrations focus on texture, interior layouts and muted colour plays. With the David Hockney exhibition happening at the Tate Britain until the 29th May, these artworks are a refreshing new look on holiday home illustrations. Today Patternbank are featuring the work of print designer Soufiane Lafkih in our ongoing series highlighting our great designers here on the Patternbank Textile Print Design Studio. Soufiane has an extensive collection of designs including hand painted florals and digitally created geometrics. We asked Soufiane about his education and what inspires him, “I had a styliste and graphiste diploma from ESMOD school Paris, which I chose because of my passion and love for the fashion and clothing styles. My sources of inspiration are nature first, I love how the colours harmonise with each other. As for fashion, I follow street styles and the seasonal catwalk shows and the fashion designer who inspires me the most is Dirk Bikkembergs.  Check out more of Soufiane’s work here on her Patternbank Studio profile page.
