Patternbank are loving this visually enhanced photographic series entitled ‘Constructed’, by artist, illustrator and designer Pawel Nolbert. Pawel blends graphic and photography elements and poses questions like: where does the “photo” end and “graphy” begin?  The use of what tools make it a photography, and distinct it from a graphic? Does it make sense to create that distinction anymore?
Pawel has a high calibre of companies that he has worked for, these include Nike, Google, Apple, Sony and Disney to name a few. See more of his jaw dropping work at nolbert.com

Check out this creative project by a group of Taiwanese art students from the National Taiwan University of the Arts. Hung I-chen, Geo Yi-hui and Cheng You-ti, produced a collection of tempting looking frozen lollypops in graphic, eye catching packaging, but with a sinister twist. Together they collected 100 samples of polluted water from locations throughout Taiwan, these were then frozen onto sticks and preserved in polyester resin and on close inspection the suspended pollutants and fragments of rubbish are clear to see. This project was designed to raise awareness about water pollution and its devastating impact the world over. Find out more about the project and how it was created on the group’s Facebook.

The Patternbank team are loving street artist Pastel Fd, a painter and architect, working in Buenos Aires. Pastel uses the urban landscape and unloved derelict builds as creative canvas. Pastel Fd explains: “Far away of conventional architecture, I understand work on the street as a urban acupuncture. Modern cities are full of “Non-places” because of irregular and not inclusive masterplanning. So paintings can be a kickstart for those places, working on the local identity and not being another tool of social gentrification. I try to base my work on experiences. Considering the space where I get to create my work, it may be a city, a rural space, an open space or a closed space. At first trying to understand the conditions that the environment offers and not to impose an already established concept for the space. Working with symbolism like arrowheads and flora, the pieces begin a dialogue about the nature of man and his surroundings. The existential, real, pure and tragic, almost forgotten in modern society.” See more of his amazing urban transformations on his portfolio site.

Peter_Pilotto_In_Conversation_At_The_Victoria_And_Albert_Museum_9

As part of their programme of inspirational evening events the Victoria & Albert Museum showcased fashion designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos in conversation with Kinvara Balfour. The Patternbank team were there to gain a little insight into the creative minds behind the successful fashion label Peter Pilotto.
After graduating together from the famous Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, considered one of the strongest and most creative fashions schools in the world, they decided to re-locate to London in order to launch their careers. Peter had already attracted attention with his final collection and with the help and support from the British Fashion Council and the fashion press, their business was already given the boost it needed for commercial success. As a collaborative business the designers experimented with various combinations of both the names, but with nothing working they decided it had to be Peter Pilotto, “It just sounded good”.
