Henrik Simonsen’s paintings really capture a natural drawn beauty of organic forms that flow freely, just as they would in nature. This is achieved by drawing freehand and allowing elements to ‘grow’ onto the canvas. There is no set order to his paintings and quite often the first mark will suggest others. He uses techniques of washed off paint then graphite and oil paint in varying degrees and this can be repeated a number of times. He says of his work that it’s main influence has been the 18th century, particularly the Rococo period which also looked to nature for inspiration.
