Naia_Ceschin_Pattern_And_Collage_01

Graphic artist Naia Ceschin was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil so its no wonder the talented designer went on to win a position on the design team at Brazillian based brand Havaianas. After graduating from ESPM the artist won a competition to join the famous flipflop company and eventually moved on in search of inspiration for her own art. Patternbank love Naia’s graphic use of lively pattern and bold colour pallete with a huge dose of carnival atmosphere. Check out more from the artist here.

Holding_Pattern_Lauren_Oneill_Airport_Photography_11

Pattern is everywhere and the Patternbank team stumbled across these inspirational aerial photos from Lauren O’Neill. She explains ‘I’ve been fascinated by airports for as long as I can remember — there’s something about the comings + goings, the organization + operation … ultimately the systems of design at play … that’s so intriguing to me. Whether DCA, JFK, or the little municipal airport, I’ve always lived in a direct flight pattern of an airport. Day-to-day, I glance out my window and watch planes circle about waiting to land.’ Her Tumblr site is an amazing visual collection of Google Maps satellite grabs – enjoy !

Steven_Meisel_Vogue_Italia_2007_Vogue_Patterns_1

Taking inspiration from a dip into the past, Patternbank discovered this print and pattern rich feature for Vogue Italia in December 2007 by celebrated photographer Steven Meisel. Despite their vintage these amazing shots have a timeless artistic quality reminiscent of Gustav Klimt’s exuberant pattern use. Where Klimt’s detailed patterns are in direct contrast with his subject’s skin, in Meisel’s shots the model’s tattooed limbs appear chameleon like, blending with the the twisted landscape of printed fabrics. See more of Steven Meisel’s portfolio of photography here.

Today we are featuring the work of textile print designer Kerrie Cauvin in our ongoing series highlighting the fantastic designers here on the Patternbank Textile Print Design Studio. Based in Sydney, Australia Kerrie has been designing for the apparel industry for over 10 years. Inspired by vintage textiles, nature, amazing colour and digital possibilities, Kerrie loves to explore all forms of media, mixing her distinctive hand drawn quality with digital techniques.

“I love to experiment using hand created artwork, sketches, photos, watercolour/painterly textures mixing them with Photoshop, iPad apps and Illustrator. This allows a very loose and playful approach, embracing “mistakes” and how they produce amazing and interesting shapes and design. On the other hand, I also love vintage florals and quirky conversationals which require a more structured design approach, so my work is really a varied mix of these 2 ways of working. Colour is a big inspiration and I find great examples through nature, catwalks, art and photography.”

Patternbank particularly love her use of colour and bold pattern-making which suits a varied marketplace from women’s fashion, swimwear, stationery and kidswear. See more of her profile page here. The featured design above is Dark Forest and is available exclusively on the Patternbank Studio as are all the designs shown here.

Kerrie also has many designs in Patternbank Premium our exclusive area for key buyers in the fashion industry. Patternbank Premium offers one-off bespoke designs (once a design is sold it is instantly removed from the site), this section of the site is a members-only area where you need to apply for access.
